Our
History
St
Mary’s school was opened by the Sisters of St
Joseph in 1958 with 41 students from K-4. In
1960 the school was extended to include Years 5
and 6. In 1968 St Mary’s became the Infants
School, while Our Lady Help of Christians,
Boolaroo, catered for the primary classes until
1976 when this school was moved from Boolaroo to
Warners Bay. In 2008 a major building project
was commenced to cater for increasing enrolments
and to replace ageing buildings.
Our
School
St
Mary’s Primary school is a systemic primary
school catering for children from Kindergarten
to Year 6. It serves the parish of
Boolaroo/Warners Bay. The school currently has
approximately 425 students.
Curriculum
As part
of the Catholic school system our Catholicity
permeates our school through Masses, liturgies
and prayer. St Mary’s follows the Board of
Studies requirements by teaching using BOS
documents. The staff places particular emphasis
on integrating technology across the Key
Learning Areas (KLA’s) using Smartboards,
laptops and desktop computers. Students are able
to participate in many extra-curricular
activities including Concert Band, Chess,
Debating, Herald Newspaper, Eisteddfods and
sporting clinics and carnivals. Talented
students may also represent the school in chosen
sports eg hockey, rugby, netball, cricket.
Cultural/Environmental Activities
Students
are able to join our prize winning choirs,
school concert band and participate in cultural
events over the Hunter Region. Students
represent the school at the Speers Point ANZAC
Dawn Service and we participate in a large
number of competitions across all KLA’s. St
Mary’s is part of the ‘Go Green’ environmental
project.
Local
Parish
The
school, community and parish are closely
connected and liaise regularly. The school
support the Parish Sacramental Team and we have
regular Stage and whole school Masses.
Community Involvement
Parents
are actively encouraged to participate in many
school activities: class reading, excursions,
computers, art and craft, canteen and library.
The school is also involved in the wider
community and participates in various
activities: LMCC environmental awards, Anzac
Dawn Service and local competitions.
